Our wraps are made in such a way that they do not require a lot of maintenance. We think it is much better to spend time with your little one than to take care of a wrap. On the other hand, buying a wrap is not cheap and if you want baby wearing to bring you joy and the wrap to keep its beauty you need to take care of it – and if you choose the right products and washing programs it doesn’t even have to take too much time :) If you care about the environment we have good news for you – careful tending to the wrap also means less impact on the environment. This holds for washing detergent and also the length of time, the wrap will last.

It always depends on the material used: if easy maintenance is a priority for you, then choose cotton – it handles a lot. Wraps with merino wool, silk or tencel in the fabric will require a bit more care, especially during washing. On the other hand they will repay you with their unique characteristics – some with the silky softness, some with their flexibility or by being heavy toddler-proof.

This goes for all our wraps:

• DO NOT USE FABRIC SOFTENER (it damages the fibers and can cause a reaction to you or your baby’s skin),
• DO NOT USE OPTICAL BRIGHTENERS,
• DO NOT USE BLEACH.

All wraps need to be washed before their first use. This will finish the manufacturing process; the wrap will shrink a little and it will become denser. It is good to check the wrap before the first wash: we check it several times during production, but we are just humans and we can overlook a small defect.

You also need to iron the wrap after the first wash (if the material allows), ideally from both sides. The individual strings of the fabric get straightened which prevents permanent folds – places where the fabric rubs against itself and gets weaker. The wrap has a tendency to get more rumpled at the beginning, so it’s good to iron it periodically to prevent folds. Later, when the wrap softens, it is enough to iron it only after washing.

Use a gentle, liquid washing detergent (one that is appropriate for the wrap’s material), that doesn’t contain fabric softener or optical brightener (careful, some products for children’s clothing contain these).

As for washing temperature, the temperature on the wrap’s tag is the maximum temperature which it can be washed on. Wash the wrap on this temperature when washing it the first time. The subsequent times use a bit cooler temperature – it is gentler to the colors and the fibers. It is very important not to drastically change temperatures when washing products containing wool – care should be taken especially with rinsing, when cold water can get into the washing machine’s drum, which will cause the wool to shrink.

In general it’s better to wash wraps less rather than more. If there is a stain you can just wash that part by hand. Bile soap is ideal when dealing with stains – apply it to the stain, leave it there for a bit and then carefully rinse. The sooner you deal with the stain after it appears the easier it will be to get rid of it. Leaving out to air dry will require less frequent washing of the wrap.

One final tip: to protect the wrap from mechanical damage that can arise from washing, wash it in a washing net bag. This is important especially in the case of ring sling, as it protects the rings from getting destroyed by being hit against the walls of the washing machine’s drum.

Cotton (100% cotton):

Cotton can be washed at a maximum temperature of 40°C. Use gentle, liquid washing detergent without optical brighteners and fabric softener. Maximum 800 spins per minute for rinsing. Use steam for ironing on a cotton program. Dry folded hanging on a line in the shade – the sun can cause colours to fade.

Merino wool TEC + cotton:

It’s possible to wash merino wool in the washing machine on 30°C thanks to the Total Easy Care finish. Avoid changes to the water temperature: if you are unsure, wash wraps containing merino wool by hand. Use detergents appropriate for wool without optical brighteners and fabric softener. Do not spin – you can however press the extra water out after you´ve wrapped the wrap with towels. Dry flat on the ground or on a drying rack. After it’s partially dry you can hang it folded. Iron on the lowest temperature.

Merino + silk + cotton:

It’s possible to wash merino wool in the washing machine on 30°C using a wool program thanks to the Total Easy Care finish. Avoid changes to the water temperature: if you are unsure, wash the wraps containing merino wool by hand in lukewarm water, rinsing after. Use detergents appropriate for wool without optical brighteners and fabric softener. Do not spin – you can however press the extra water out after you´ve wrapped the wrap with towels. Dry flat on the ground or on a drying rack. After it’s partially dry you can hang it folded. Iron on the lowest temperature without using the steam function..

Merino + silk + SeaCell or Tencel + cotton:

It’s possible to wash merino wool in the washing machine on 30°C using a wool program thanks to the Total Easy Care finish. Avoid changes to the water temperature: if you are unsure, wash the wraps containing merino wool by hand in lukewarm water, rinsing after. Use detergents appropriate for wool without optical brighteners and fabric softener. Do not spin – you can however press the extra water out after you´ve wrapped the wrap with towels. Dry flat on the ground or on a drying rack. After it’s partially dry you can hang it folded. Iron on the lowest temperature without using the steam function.

Tencel + cotton:

Wash on 20-30°C on a very gentle program with a low spin rate (up to 500). Take out of the washing machine immediately after the washing is finished. Don’t use optical brighteners and fabric softeners. Dry flat on the drying rack away from direct sun. Iron using medium or low temperature.

Note: when tencel is exposed to higher temperatures and humidity it can fibrillate (produce little hair). This is a normal characteristic of the material.

Tencel + linen:

Wash on 20-30°C on a very gentle program, no spin. Take out of the washing machine immediately after the washing is finished. Don’t use optical brighteners and fabric softeners. Dry flat on the drying rack away from direct sun. Iron using medium or low temperature – quite frequently at the beginning to iron the created folds.

Note: when tencel is exposed to higher temperatures and humidity it can fibrillate (produce little hair). This is a normal characteristic of the material.

Hemp + cotton:

Use a gentle program, 40°C, use gentle liquid detergent, do not use fabric softener. Line dry. Steam iron on cotton settings. The wrap will shrink after the first wash - this is normal. We send the wrap longer to make sure the given length corresponds to the post-wash state.

 

How to repair a wrap

Despite all the care and caution, sometimes one of the threads gets torn or pulled out. You have two options the: either you can send us the wrap for repair (this option is charged, the details are best arranged by email) or you can repair it yourself with the help of our videos.
